The Chrome Extension feature has been abandoned and has never being released to the public. Elcano is an independent tool that has no any official association with UofT. Students use Google Account to log in. There is no connection between Elcano and Magellan.

Why do we name it Elcano?

Ferdinand Magellan was a historical figure who died halfway through his expedition circumnavigating the globe. Juan Elcano took over command and completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth.

So, Juan Elcano is actually the person who finally end up finishing the circumnavigation.

Elcano is an online course selection tool developed by the University of Toronto ECE students, offering a better user interface than the official ECE course selection tool, Magellan. Elcano serves as a third-party assistant tool, providing an improved UI for Magellan.
